Flight Training General Information & Requirements

Recreational Pilot

The recreational Pilot Permit is perfect for those who plan on flying locally for fun. Once completed, you'll be able to fly a single-engine aircraft during the day with one passenger on board.

  • 16 years old upon completion
  • Category 4 Medical Certificate
  • Pass written and flight exams
  • 40 hours of ground school
  • 20 hours dual flight time
  • 5 hours solo flight ti

Private Pilot

The Private Pilot License will allow you to fly single-engine aircraft, but is very versatile. It allows you to add additional ratings and licenses, and is the first building block towards becoming a commercial pilot.

  • 17 years old upon completion
  • Category 3 Medical Certificate
  • Pass written and flight exams
  • 40 hours of ground school
  • 17 hours dual flight time
  • 12 hours solo flight time
  • 16 additional hours as designated
  • (45 hours minimum requirements by Transport Canada)

 

Commercial Pilot

Would you like to have a career as a pilot?  The Commercial Pilot License is the next step. It allows you to fly for compensation and opens up exciting new career options.

        Requirements         Training
  • 18 years old upon completion
  • 200 hours total upon completion
  • 100 hours PIC upon completion
  • Category 1 Medical Certificate
  • Pass written and flight exams
  • 85 hours (including PPL Time) of ground school
  • 35 hours dual flight time
  • 85 hours solo flight time

 

VFR Over The Top

The VFR Over the Top Rating allows you to fly in VFR conditions above the clouds, making it easier to travel from place to place.

  • Private License or higher
  • Flight check upon completion    
  • 15 hours dual instrument time

 

VFR Night

The Night Rating allows you to fly under VFR conditions at night. This opens up a whole new range of possibilities and makes you a safer pilot.

  • Flight check upon completion    
  • 5 hours dual night flight time
  • 5 hours solo night flight time
  • 10 hours dual instrument time

 

Instrument

The Instrument Rating allows you to fly under IFR conditions - without reference to the ground. We offer Instrument Ratings for both single- and multi-engine aircraft.

        Requirements         Training
  • 50 hours XC PIC upon completion
  • Private License or higher
  • Multi Engine Rating if applicable
  • Pass written and flight exams     
  • 40 hours dual instrument time

 

Multi-Engine

If and when you decide to move up to larger aircraft, the Multi-Engine Rating is what you need. With this, you will be able to fly more complex aircraft, travel faster, and have more fun.

  • Pass flight exam
  • 10 hours dual multi time

 

Flight Instructor

Being a Flight Instructor will open up plenty of new doors for your flying career. The Flight Instructor Rating ensures that you are at the top of your game in order to pass on your knowledge to others.

  • Commercial License or higher
  • Pass written and flight exams
  • 30 hours dual flight time

 

Ground School

Ground school is a mandatory requirement and consists of 40 hours, plus home study.   Ground school covers the following subjects:

  • Air Regulation
  • Aerodynamics and Theory of Flight
  • Meteorology
  • Airframes, Engines and Systems
  • Flight Instruments
  • Radio and Electronic Theory
  • Navigation
  • Flight Operation
  • Licensing Requirements
  • Pilot Decision Making

 

The student must achieve a 60% pass in each of the four categories: Air Law, Navigation, Meteorology and Aeronautics on a multiple-choice written examination.

Aviation Medical Exam

The applicant must be 17 years of age for a Private license and must possess a Medical Fitness & Validity: Category 3 or 1 Medical Certificate.
